Meadow foxtail is a perennial grass with an erect growth habit. This plant is native to Europe and Northern Asia. Foxtails bloom June to July and is high in pollen shedding. It was cultivated as a forage grass and is high in proteins and vitamins for cattle. Generally this plant is found in fields and meadows and along roads and ditches. It grows 2 to 4 feet tall.

Grains are spheroidal to ovoidal, sometimes elliptical. The exine is thin and the surface is granular to finely reticuloid. Poaceae apertures are 1-porate, with the pores usually circular to ovoidal.
Grains are 22-122 micrometers in diameter.
